Lent 2025

Lent is just one week away. Have you decided how you are going to grow in your relationship with God this Lenten season. This can give the much needed restart we all can use from time to time. Jesus spent 40 days in the desert fasting, praying and preparing for his mission. Lent reflects this in that over the 40 days we fast, pray and prepare for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is also a great time to start putting in place those life-giving habits and getting rid of the habits that are destructive to us. Through tradition Catholics usually give something up, do a spiritual challenge, and saying special Lenten prayers. It does not matter what one does for Lent; the only thing that matters is that we give more of our time to Jesus Christ this Lenten season. Currently giving 20% to Jesus, make it 40% during Lent. The theme that keeps popping up is Jump In. Meaning that no matter where you are at in life starting today you can make the change. There is nothing more powerful than living your life for God and all you have to do is Jump In.

During Lent the Catholic Church has meaning in all kinds of ways. One of these ways that might seem small on comparison are through the colors we see at Mass and through church decorations. The main color throughout Lent is purple which represents repentance. Lent is all about repentance as we prepare to be saved by Jesus Christ through his death on the cross. The next color we see is red, one of the times we see it is on Palm Sunday. Red represents the foreshadowing of the death of Jesus on the cross. Lastly, on Easter Sunday we see the color white, representing the joy of the resurrection of Jesus.

What are my plans for Lent? I noticed that I needed a much-needed reboot so I am making changes not only to improve my faith but also other things in my life. To start, I am going to listen to the Hallow Lenten Challenge along with the one Ascension Press is putting out with Fr. Josh Johnson on the seven deadly sins. As these are things I normally do during Lent I decided this year to add more to my Lenten Plan. I wanted to go fully no electronics, however with most of my schoolwork, my religion apps, and communication all happen on devices I changed it a little. During Lent I am going no social media outside of my few Unafraid Catholic posts and no streaming platforms. This is to reduce my screen time and fill my free time with the things that are better for me. Lastly, as this is my first Lent with my Instagram and this blog I decided to do something special through a Bible study. I am going to read the book of Isaiah and ask you all to join me. Each week I will post on here my thoughts on a chunk of chapters. Now Isaiah has a total of 66 chapters, but I think it is totally doable to read all of it by Easter Sunday. Lastly, there will be regular posts on my Instagram page about how I am doing with all my Lenten things and what I have learned throughout Lent.

A little time frame: Starting March 4th there will be one new post each week in the Lent tab. The fourth is the day before Ash Wednesday to get us started. Then from March 5th to April 9th I will have a post about a new set of chapters from Isaiah. On April 16th I will post about Holy Week. Lastly, Easter Sunday will be the final post which will be in the main blog tab.

This Lenten season is going to be amazing. All you have to do is Jump In.
