Isaiah Chapters 34-44

Chapter 34: “Seek and read from the book of the Lord: Not one of these shall be missing; none shall be without her mate. For the mouth of the Lord has commanded, and his Spirit has gathered them.” - Isaiah 34:16 We will start to see more and more connections between the Old and New Testaments. It is important to note that Jesus came to fulfill the prophecies. Everything in chapter 34 points to our salvation. Pointing to everything we have been preparing for, and everything we prepare for during Lent. Jesus Christ came to redeem us from our sins.

Chapter 35: “Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then shall the lame man leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.” - Isaiah 35:5-6 These verses we see Jesus do in the Gospels. This is just some of the miracles that Jesus performed. We see the fulfillment right here. We are a part of the salvation. Every single one of us are saved. The question is do we want to be saved. Every day we make the choice to follow God and to continue to ask for forgiveness.

Chapter 36: Chapter 36 gives an example of how we need to give our full trust and reliance on God. Trusting in God’s plan he has for us. He has a plan for each one of us. Something I like to say has a little prayer that helps me trust in the Lord is saying, “Jesus I trust in you.” This always helps me get my mind on Jesus, but also to remind myself that God’s plan for me is better than the one I have for myself.

Chapter 37: “O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, who are enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth.” Isaiah 37:16 We continue this theme of trust. Saying this to God can show the trust one has for him. God is the one and only. The one we need to follow especially, if it is peace, happiness, and love we are seeking.

Chapter 38: “The Lord will save me, and we will sing to stringed instruments all the days of our life, at the house of the Lord.” - Isaiah 38:20 Take time this week and spend more of it with Jesus. Whether on your own or at adoration or sitting in a chapel or church. During Lent, we are preparing for the death and resurrection of Jesus. This is the time to form the habits of spending that extra 5 minutes you have with the Lord and not on social media or whatever the distraction for you might be.

Chapter 39: In chapter 39 we see Hezekiah start to fall into the trap of relying on others and not God. This is a reminder to Trust and rely on God and God only. To rely on others means to rely on humans. Human beings are sinful and tend to not be as reliable as Jesus Christ. Putting our trust in the Lord is important and can make our lives better.

Chapter 40: “The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand for ever.” - Isaiah 40:8 As much as we would like for the flowers to stay nice and bright and the grass green forever that is not the case. Everything on earth is temporary. However, what will be there after we all have passed is Jesus Christ and his words. He is what lasts forever. Putting Jesus at the center of our lives can get us one step closer to spending eternity with Jesus Christ.

Chapter 41: “For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’” - Isaiah 41:13 Sometimes we fear that we are going it all alone. Yet, that is further from the truth. Jesus is always right there. He is helping you with your highs and your lows. Staying with you through it all. Turn to him.

Chapter 42: “Who among you will give ear to this, will attend and listen for the time to come?” - Isaiah 42:23 Are we going to follow and listen to the Lord? God has given us the tools. We know have to decide are we going to use them or not. Are we going to decide to grow closer to him? These are things we decide as individuals, this is the beauty of free will. We make the choice everyday to follow the Lord.

Chapter 43: “I am the Lord, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.” - Isaiah 43:15 What more needs to be said. Jesus is King and the one who deserves all our praise. We are saved because he died for our sins.

Chapter 44: “They shall spring up like grass amid waters, like willows by flowing streams.” - Isaiah 44:4 Those that follow Jesus are happier and grow so much. They grow as people, as being a part of the faithful family, and overall they grow in the good things. It might not be easy and it takes work, but grow like flowers and follow the Lord.
